Founders Message

Thank you! Carrollton Women’s Club, Covenant Church, Bob, Carla, Lou, Debbie/JT, Georgia, Evelyn, Alice/Bill, Deborah/Rodney, Ellen, Lonnie. With your help, we were able to help 12 families during the month of May.

Hebrews 6:10 tells us…He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.

Some of the people we helped in May

May 5: $350 was paid to Windsor Westbridge to help Tameka (35) and her 15-year-old son. She works at Haven Hospital making $18 per hour and her hours were reduced recently, just as unexpected expenses arose. She is a Certified Nursing Assistant, Anesthetician, and mental health caregiver. She has been told that her hours will be increased soon. She has started another job part-time as a caregiver.

May 22: Paid $288.80 to CoServe to help Chalaun (44) with her electricity bill. She works for CAF Management as a leasing consultant making $16 per hour. On top of her own living expenses, she helps her young adult daughter with school expenses at North Central Texas College. She told us she hasn’t had a cost-of-living raise in years and is struggling through these inflationary times. She is also helped by the Friendship House and other charities for food.

May 23: Tina (56), divorced with one adult child. She was laid off in April, 2023, from the US Small Business Administration where she worked as a Paralegal Specialist. She has a degree in radio broadcasting, is proficient with computers and has worked part time as a substitute teacher. She is seeking other employment.

May 24: $350 paid to Trinity Crossing to help David (54), unmarried with significant physical challenges. He has been trained in technical support by Texas Workforce Commission Training Academy. He has been working as a temporary Admin Assistant/Tech Support at Dallas Community College since April. His paycheck was not enough to cover his living expenses this month.

May 25: Paid Atmos Energy $259.68 to help Ms. Goldsmith (88). She is not computer literate. She lost her husband many years ago, and depends on her senior son for much that has to do with modern technology. Her gas bill went up unexpectedly. Fortunately, she is also being helped by Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.

Donations to John 3:16 that arrive by check or via the John 3:16 website are immediately used to help people in need. As many know, our clients are given a Resource List at the time of their appointment. When there are few or no funds available, there are dozens of callers who are emailed a Resource List showing names and telephone numbers of other charities who may or may not have funds available. We pray that, whether or not we can help these callers, someone somewhere can.

To give by check, make payable to John 3:16 and send it to John 3:16, P.O. A SAMPLING OF OUR APRIL 2023 OUTREACH:

April 3: We paid Carrollton Park of North Dallas $350 to help Linda (37) with her rent. She had immigrated from The Ivory Coast with her 9-year old son. She was laid off from her job due to her inability to travel. She could not leave her special needs son in the care of others at that time. She has experience in inventory, clerical, retail and helpdesk. She is in school part time for training as an IT Technician and hopes to gain certification soon. She has been hired by Citi Group, but that job hasn’t started yet.

April 6We paid Villas of Josey Ranch $350 to help Takeitha (48), with her rent. She has worked at Comstock Resources for 17 years in Accounts Payable and her job is secure. However, she drives a car that is over 15 years old and needed extensive repairs. Her rent money had to go to those repairs.

April 24$350 was paid to help Crystal (62), referred to us by Covenant Church. She has had multiple spinal surgeries and was off work for 3 months. She works in the Payroll Department of Wellmed United Healthcare and is being helped also by St. Catherine of Sienna, Prince of Peace Lutheran, and the Friendship House. Our prayer for her is miraculous healing of her spine and relief of pain.

Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give to others.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDERS

An Open House has been set!

The planning is almost complete for our open house! An afternoon very soon will be set aside from 1pm to 4pm at our offices at 1925 E. Beltline Road, Suite 484, Carrollton, Texas, 75006. We hope you will come visit us, see where we work, interview, and pray with clients, and ask any questions you might have about our ministry.

Refreshments will be served!

We'd like to recognize those generous people who have chosen to continue contributing to this ministry by sending monthly or one-time contributions by cash or check to Housing Help by John 3:16, P.O. Box 110702, Carrollton, Texas, 75001.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT: Margaret, Covenant Church, Bob, Mary, Gloria, Cindy, Evelyn, Alice, Deborah, Pamela, Pat, Ellen, and Joyce. With your help, we were able to help eight (8) families during the month of March.

Fortunately, Texas Rent Relief stepped in and took approximately 70,000 applications for rental and utility assistance in just a few short days. That relief is over now, so we are again scrambling to help people, if we can.

1 John 3:17 (NIV) If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? (John writes "Dear childred, let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and in truth".)

A SAMPLING OF OUR MARCH 2023 OUTREACH:

March 6: We helped Ricky (47) with $350 towards his rent at Hunter's Hill Apartments. He has had a difficult few months - his elderly father passed away recently from Covid and Ricky lost his job at Express Auto. He recently started working at City Garage making $18/hour as a Certified Inspecter, but his savings were depleted. He's doing his best to get back on his feet financially.

March 6: $350.00 was paid to Carrollton Park Apartments to help Brittany (32) with her rent. She has a three year old son and is receiving $220/month child support. She has been working at a Plano U.S. Post Office making $26/hour for six years when she was placed on leave unexpectedly with no pay. She has filed her taxes for 2022 and is waiting on a refund while she looks for another job.

March 10: We paid $252.85 to Amigo Energy to help Ingrid (23) with the electric bill for the apartment she shares with her mom and dad. Her dad had been laid off and was unemployed for about 2 months. Ingrid and her mom both work and have been covering most of the bills to the best of their ability. Ingrid works at XL Pro Staffing making $17/hour, and her mom works as a server at a restaurant.

March 10: $350 was paid to Bella Vista Apartments on behalf of Jaleh (44). She had immigrated from Iran through Australia, has a 5-year-old son, and her husband is trying to get to the U.S. from Australia. She currently works in home health care making $9.30/hour, has completed her education to become a certified nurse and hopes to find a better job soon. She hopes her husband makes it here soon.

March 21: $350 was paid to RWD Phase II Apartments to help Aquisha (33). She had left her job at ADT Security dispatching police, fire and patrol officers to catastrophic occurrences. She found another job at Chase in their Loyalty Department, but the new job but the new job doesn’t start until April 3. Prince of Peace Lutheran helped her with $500 and gave her a Bible – her first! We helped her with the remaining $350 needed to pay this month's rent and a book on "How to Find it in the Bible". She left our office with relief and a smile on her face!

A SAMPLING OF OUR JANUARY 2023 OUTREACH:

Thanks to our donors, we provided $8,045.00 to 36 clients in the month of January.

January 1: $350 was paid to Twenty Five 25 Players Court Apartments to aid Melodie (55) living on social security of $910 a month since health issues caused her to retire from Home Heath Care. Melodie started a new job at Ascend Home Care in November 2022 making $10 per hour.

January 10: $350 was paid to Bristol Apartments to help Tina (63) a single lady with no family. Tina contracted Covid and was unable to work due to dizziness and the concern of her employer. She works for a non-profit organization providing development for unemployed parents of little league children. She was not paid for her time off and found herself unable to pay her monthly bills. January 11: $350 was paid to Champions of North Dallas to help Veronica, a young mother with a two-month old baby girl. We also helped her just before the baby was born. Veronica is single and the father of her baby is not in the picture. She was working at Lionheart Children's Academy as a preschool teacher until just before her baby was born. She expected to be back at work on January 16.

Update on those Receiving Aid:

Assistance was provided to 32 families or individuals in need in the month of December.   December is always a tough month for those on the verge of homelessness. A sampling of those needs:

Case 1) On December 1, $350 was paid to Timberglen Apartments to help Jalissa (39) and her two children (Ages 10 and 2). She is not married and was laid off Nov 3 from Impact Floors.  But she is starting a new job at Superior Medical as a Service Coordinator at $21.35/hour. Jalissa was educated at Kaplan College in Arlington, TX as a Medical Assistant.

Case 2) On December 14, $350 was paid to Veridian Place to help Vicki (52). This was the second time we have helped Vicki. The first was just a few days ago and she understands that the John 3:16 policy is three occurrences within a year. We are happy to hear that she now has a job and is on her way to a secure future. She attributes this success to the prayer we offered on her behalf when she visited us the first time.

Case 3) On December 28, our last client for the month was Candace. $350 was paid to Veridian Place to help Candace (43) and her young daughter (11). Candace works two jobs, one at Plano ISD and the other styling hair at a salon. She earns $1500/month at PISD and $600 at the hair salon. Her rent was unexpectedly increased, making it hard for her to meet expenses. She is budgeting carefully and expects to be able to meet her financial obligations next month.

What does the Bible say about helping the needy? (Bibleask.org)

The Bible teaches the principle of helping the needy: “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land”.(Deuteronomy 15:11 also v. 7,8). The needy and the poor have a claim on those who are not poor; and the help they require should be given without hesitation. In fact, the Bible teaches “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given” (Proverbs 19:17).

And the Lord God promised, “Blessed is he who considers the poor; the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble” (Psalm 41:1). God delights when His children are a blessing to the needy and use the means within their reach to do good to others, especially those who cannot give anything in return (Acts 20:35). For blessing others glorifies God (Matthew 5:16).

Let us glorify God by helping those in need!

Today’s Homelessness in America (New York Times)

"America’s homeless problem has the makings of an acute crisis.  Shelters across the U.S. are reporting a surge in people looking for help, with wait lists doubling or tripling in recent months. Experts say that the number of homeless people outside shelters is also probably rising. Some live in encampments, which have popped up in parks and other public places."

The goal of Housing Help by John 3:16 is to keep homelessness from happening to these families.
